At the Genesee County Animal Control in Flint, Michigan, October 25 had been a heartbreaking day for rescuers. Two German shepherds were rescued after being trapped in a crate and abandoned in a pond.
The puppies, named Ringo and Star, by their rescuers had been trapped in a cage that had been dumped into Thread Lake at the Flint Golf Club. Both dogs, estimated to be between 1.5 to 2 years of age, escaped the cage after several hours, but Ringo got stuck in the mud and was too weak to pull himself out; Star ran off to find help.

A good Samaritan had been driving in the area when Star chased his truck, barking and pleading for help. The man stopped his truck as he felt that something was wrong. Like something out of a movie, Star led him back to the pond to get help for Ringo. Ringo was also rescued and brought to the shelter.
Tragically, the shepherd named Ringo had to be euthanized due to severe injuries, while Star survived and is recovering after emergency surgery.

Crime Stoppers of Flint & Genesee County announced a dramatic increase in the reward offered for information. Earlier in the month, the reward started with $1,000; then increased to $3,000 and now at $4,000 thanks for another anonymous donor.

Anyone with information is asked to call 1-800-422-JAIL. In addition, if someone has information about where these dogs came from or who they belonged to, please contact 911 and the dispatch team at 810-732-1660, extension 2. Your report will remain anonymous.
