On Friday morning, the staff and volunteers from the Humane Society of North Texas carefully negotiated the release of 36 chihuahuas and one lone cat. The animals had been surviving in a one-bedroom shanty that barely qualified as a shelter.

The entire area was strewn with debris, and mounds of trash had been piled in every corner. The dogs had no food or water, and all lacked even the most basic of care. The dogs were frail, filthy and trembled from starvation. They were too weak to cry and too frightened to even move.

Each dog will need to be fully sedated and then examined. They all have been reported to be infested with fleas and worms. Many of the dogs suffer from severe eye, ear and tooth infections.

these dogs aren’t just neglected – they are emotionally shattered. they’ve known minimal human contact, no affection and no consistent food source.
The shelter is reaching out for help today. The dogs have been described as clinging to each other with a pack mentality. Their rehabilitation is going to be the biggest hurdle. Before they can learn to walk on grass, accept a leash or make eye contact, they need time.

Their stories are being told through their photos. Please help if you can.
