Less than a week ago, 10 Shiba Inu puppies were discovered in a storage container, and two female adult dogs who had given birth to the puppies, were found running loose in Taylor Park in Largo, Florida. All of the dogs tested positive for the contagious parvovirus and are now being treated at the Skyward Animal Hospital.
Pawlicious Poochie Pet Rescue have bravely undertaken the task to help these dogs, and along with the community, supporters, new followers and people from across the country, all have rallied and come together to help the “little grass roots rescue” and the locally owned Skyway Animal Hospital.

As of the most recent update, all 12 dogs continue to fight for their lives. Four of the puppies remain in critical condition, and the last puppy that arrived, named Frosty, is the most critical. Dogs left untreated rarely survive, but those administered the proper antibiotics and given the necessary care have an excellent chance at survival and a full recovery.
For anyone not familiar with the parvovirus, it is usually puppies who are the most susceptible because of their undeveloped immune systems. The dogs are all receiving IV antibiotics and fluids several times a day.
The medication to treat parvovirus is very expensive, and each dog’s treatment is expected to cost $3,000.
The dogs are expected to remain at the hospital for two weeks and then will move on to Pawlicious Poochies Pet Rescue for their recovery and subsequent adoptions. The two mother dogs have been named Holly and Jolly; their puppies have been named after reindeer.
The Largo Police Department is investigating the situation to find out who abandoned the dogs at the park. Officials are reaching out to the public for information and have asked anyone with knowledge to call 727.587.6730.
