At the Harvard MBTA station (Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority) in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the local fire department responded to an accident to free a small dog from a moving escalator. Fortunately, the Cambridge Fire Department responded to the scene on October 18 at approximately 11:00 p.m.

When crews arrived, they discovered the back paws of the tiny dog had been trapped in the escalator. Firefighters were able to free the little dog, and Engine 1 transported the dog (and owner) to an emergency veterinary facility for further treatment. Injuries were non-life-threatening.

Escalators are unforgiving. Always pay attention. Use extra caution, especially with small children and animals. Prevent injuries.

One Ladder 1 firefighter was accidentally bitten by the dog during the extrication.
