Dogs like Amber are the stuff that movies are made about; the shy five-year-old retriever blend had made an incredible 40-mile journey after having been missing for 36 days. Luckily, she was finally rescued by two men who spotted her swimming to the mainland.

The good news was announced on May 31 on the Facebook page from KS Angels Rescue:
We are absolutely over the moon to announce that Amber was caught this morning. By a boat. She was swimming back from Brownsea island where she has apparently been for the last few days!
Massive thank you to the very kind men on the boat for getting her safely on board and looking after her so well! You genuinely saved her life. Thanks also to the dog lost team for all their help and support…
she was 40 miles away from home and had swam at least 2 miles! She is now being pampered, but with 3 leads attached and a guard at all time.
Amber had been rescued as a stray from Qatar, and had spent most of her time there living in a shelter. She was brought to the United Kingdom by KS Angels Rescue and had been staying in a foster home, who had no idea how she even escaped since they had eight-foot high fencing installed.

Amber had not bonded with her foster parents at the time, and seemed to have just been running from anything.
According to KS Angels Rescue, the small dog rescue located in the New Forest, England, Amber disappeared from her foster home on April 25. Rescuers searched the entire area for her and left food treats to lure her back, but the determined pooch headed in a south westerly direction for miles towards Brownsea Island. For four days she stayed on the island and had been receiving food and water by a few of the area residents.

Amber then headed back to the mainland via the water and had been spotted by the crew of a passing ferry who at first thought she was a seal. Seeing her struggling in the rough water, the boat turned around, and a crew member jumped into the water and rescued her. It wasn’t until the crew member got Amber onboard did he realize she wasn’t a seal, but instead a dog.
A message was sent to the KS Angels Rescue:
we know she entered the water at Sandbanks as we were sent a photo of her there. It is about a mile of swimming which is just incredible.
Amber was taken to a local veterinarian, and although she had lost a lot of weight and had been gone for five weeks, she was relatively healthy.
How Amber managed to stay alive and relatively unscathed during her odyssey remains a mystery. She’s no doubt a dog with an amazing will to live and the luck to match her spirit.
For another bit of good news – one of the women who had been feeding Amber on Brownsea Island might want to adopt her.
Welcome back Amber!
