At the Ventura County Animal Services in Camarillo, California, shelter dogs look forward to the staff and volunteers affording them individual playtime or day trips to break up the boredom while they wait for someone special to fill their hearts with love and adopt them.
One can only imagine how slowly the hours pass that turn into days, weeks and months. Fortunately, shelter volunteers make a difference, although there is a heartbreaking side to the fun day trips some of the dogs are so fortunate to experience.

Sadly, Garland is frequently overlooked; not because she isn’t young, beautiful and smart, but because there are so many big dogs at the shelter needing homes.
As a staff member or volunteer, this is the hardest part of taking shelter dogs out for day trips. Adopt Garland so we don’t have to keep bringing her back to the shelter.
Garland is truly such a bright, engaged, and affectionate dog. She wants to please her human and quickly figures out what’s being asked of her. She has been continually overlooked due to high numbers of shepherds at our shelter, and because she needs a home without small animals. Garland is four years old and has spent the better part of two years in a kennel, and yet she still has an AMAZING temperament.
Garland certainly enjoyed her FIELD TRIP out of the shelter! She visited @deeplyrootedcamarillo to learn about some pet-safe plants. She was incredibly engaged, followed basic commands beautifully, and loved making friends with Kristen at Deeply Rooted.

Garland is a smart, loving shepherd who wants to cuddle. She has done great on outings to the pier, the beach and on hikes in foster. Garland has proven to be both attentive and affectionate and follows basic commands very well. She is looking for a home without small animals.
