Sevier County Animal Shelter severely overcrowded pleads for adopters to prevent dogs and cats from euthanasia

The Sevier County Animal Shelter in Sevierville, Tennessee has been facing a crisis of overcrowding, and in a recent post on social media, has been calling out for foster homes and adopters to come forward and help with the 142 dogs and 86 cats currently being cared for in the shelter.

The staff and volunteers are reaching out for help as more dogs and cats have been entering the shelter.

Some of the best dogs around have been at the shelter for months, and they patiently have been waiting for their forever homes.

A volunteer writes:

Unfortunately, I’m afraid euthanasia is creeping upon us like a dark cloud we all dread to see break the horizon. None of us want that. They just need a chance- one person to see past their crazy barks in their noisy kennel environment; one person that’s ok with their jumpy, wild behavior because they’re excited someone stopped to say hi. All it takes is one chance.

So, if one of the boxes you need checked before you adopt is being housetrained – no problem because there are plenty of pooches fitting that qualification. Do you need one who’s good with children? No problem there either; come take a look and bring the kids. And for those future pup parents who want a couch potato to watch movies and adore being petted, yes, indeed – they are all here just waiting for that car ride home.

We know these dogs like the back of our hands. We spend more time with them than we do our families. They are our family. If you’re looking for something specific, we can point you towards the perfect best friend for you. You just have to be willing to be the one chance.

The staff loves every animal that enters the shelter, and they just want all of them to get the second chance at a great life. Many of these pups have not had the greatest past, but they eagerly await their futures, since dogs tend not to dwell on yesterday and get up in the morning ready to start a fine new day.

Please help them get the best rest of their lives!

PLEASE come down, they are open NOW until 5:00 PM and help make a difference in these sweet precious lives!
