In a news release by the Schenectady Police and Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, an investigation continues in a disturbing case of animal cruelty and neglect. The severely neglected and abused dog, appeared to have had one ear cut off along with a long line of other injuries.

Authorities are seeking help identifying those responsible for this heinous act of cruelty.
One day before authorities were called to rescue the dog, a Good Samaritan had found the six-year-old dog and had taken her home. Upon realizing how badly the dog was injured, the next day they called police.
On the afternoon of March 30, 2025, Schenectady Police Department Animal Control arrived at a city residence to help the dog the residents found the evening before in the area of Eastern Parkway and McClellan Street. Officers discovered the female dog who was underweight, suffered from severe wounds to her face and ears; one ear seemed to have been intentionally cut off. In addition, she also suffered from fractured and broken teeth.
She was immediately brought to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society.

Although no one knows what happened to the dog, now named Lavender by the shelter staff, it is thought she might have been a part of a dog fighting operation.
Lavender, who has likely undergone devastating cruelty, remains very sweet and bonded to the officer who rescued her. She is currently remains in the care of the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society (MHHS) and is slowly recovering.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Schenectady Police Department’s Detective Division at 518-382-5245 or our Tips Line at 518-788-6566.
