Senior dog ‘crying softly’ mourns death of her owner at Texas shelter in need of second chance home

At Austin Pets Alive!, a beautiful 11-year-old senior pup, Lori is searching for her second chance to a true forever home of her own. The staff says she waits by her kennel door “crying softly.” Tragically, she continues to mourns the death of her owner, and when no one could provide her with the care she needed, she was taken out of the home she loved and returned to the animal rescue organization on December 22.

According to the rescue, Lori was adopted in 2015 and had been a loved companion and family member for the last nine years. When Lori’s adopter needed help, the dog moved in with the adopter’s mom, and everything was fine until the adopter passed away.

Lori is friendly and well-mannered. She enjoys meeting new people. She gives full body wags of excitement to say hi but knows when to stay calm. If you use a cane or a walker, Lori is incredibly thoughtful and will walk calmly beside you, making sure you’re okay. It’s a beautiful example of her kind and considerate nature.

Lori has enjoyed spending time with a 10-year-old child and was great around her and her friends. Lori does awesome when left alone at home but she also loves having someone around.

Although everyone at the rescue adores Lori, adjusting to shelter life again after all this time being at home as part of a family, is incomprehensible to Lori. Why is she back here? When will she be able to go home?

She needs a loving and caring family who will open up their heart and home to her. Lori has so much love, joy and companionship to give to that very special family who will make her their own.

Senior dogs like Lori bring a special kind of love and bond. The wisdom of life in dog years is deep. They cherish the chance to be loved by a family. To be part of a family.
