In Summit County, Ohio, the carelessness of humans has resulted in the saddest predicament for a deer after a plastic container became lodged over its head.
According to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, officers and rangers involved in trying to free the deer from the container, stated the bucket is translucent which enables the animal to see anyone approaching it or trying to sedate it with a tranquilizer gun.
Wildlife officials have been asking local residents to stay away from the deer, even if they spot it and report the location to the department. Deer can become very stressed and have been known to die from excess stress.
And once again, we appeal to the public to make sure trash receptacles are tightly sealed, food is not left out for wildlife and as important, don’t litter. More than likely, someone had tossed the empty plastic container away and a deer smelled something rather appetizing – and this is what happened.
Pollution from plastics has significantly hurt wildlife causing entanglement, ingestion and habitat damage. Marine animals are especially vulnerable – sea turtles affected while swimming in the oceans making long migrations often pass through areas with a lot of ocean plastic where they get caught in six pack rings or discarded fishing lines.
Humans can do better. We share this beautiful planet with wildlife. Please be kind and respect all life.
We will update when the deer has been rescued.
