In Christiana, Tennessee, a runaway zebra quickly gained celebrity status after running away from his new home one day after he arrived. Finally, after a week of searching and some interesting internet banter, Ed the zebra is safely back home.
According to the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office, the “international sensation” zebra search for him commenced on May 30 – one day after he arrived. There had been several sightings of the zebra crossing Interstate 24, forcing traffic to be shut down and detoured, as not to cause an accident. Shortly after, Ed ran into the forest and had been spotted several times casually sauntering down residential streets.

After a week, notwithstanding the most amusing “sightings” (real and made up), Ed was located in a pasture near a subdivision close to Interstate 24. Deputies established command with the Tennessee Highway Patrol and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency on Sunday morning.
Celebrity Zebra Ed was rescued safely:
Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office is happy to report Tango 82 aviation crews located Zebra Ed and returned him to his owner Sunday.
Ed was located in a pasture located near the Buchanan Estates subdivision near Interstate 24. Deputies were on standby for safety of the residents who live nearby. Ed was airlifted and flown by helicopter back to a waiting animal trailer.
Ed the zebra is home and safe.
Many thanks to everyone involved in helping Ed.
