Runaway kangaroo on Alabama interstate causes accident before being recaptured

In Macon County, Alabama, an escaped kangaroo, (yes it’s not a typo) has been recaptured after causing an automobile accident, shutting down Interstate 85 after having been spotted hopping in the middle of the highway on Tuesday.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, a two-vehicle crash occurred on Tuesday involving the kangaroo. Both the southbound and northbound lanes of Interstate 85 near mile marker 46 had to be closed while authorities conducted the recovery of the kangaroo.

The owner of the kangaroo, working with state and local police, was able to be shot with a tranquilizer gun. Once the animal was sedated, the owner put the female kangaroo, named Sheila in her vehicle and drove her back to their farm. Seems that Sheila had run off (hopped off we mean) from the local pumpkin patch.

The animal has now been recovered, and the roadway is back open. The kangaroo was not injured in the crash.

Who would have imagined seeing a kangaroo hopping down the highway in Alabama?
