Sabrina Bazzo was shocked this past week when she discovered her golden retriever, Bruno, chewing on meat laced with poison and metal hooks. Two handfuls of the poisonous materials had been thrown over the fence into her San Diego backyard.
When Bazzo first spotted the strange wrapped meats near Bruno’s toys she was shocked. The bluish colored crystals mixed with hooks and tied together with string, prompted her to rush Bruno to the veterinarian hospital where vomiting was induced. Bruno was indeed a lucky pup; veterinarians were confident that bringing the dog in within 20 minutes of him consuming the poison saved his life. Had Bruno eaten more of the poison or the hooks went deep into his stomach or more time had lapsed, the results might have ended in tragedy.
Bruno became a member of the family when Bazzo’s husband had been diagnosed with brain cancer and died a few months later. the dog had been an instrumental companion helping the family cope.
Bruno had been a small puppy at the time, but a few months after her husband’s death, Sabrina received a letter in the mail warning her to “shut your fu***** dog up from barking all night.”
David’s death had been a hard time for the family, but after that, Bruno was never left alone in the backyard even on their own property.
She suspects the author of the letter is behind the poison food thrown in her backyard.
San Diego Humane Society’s Humane Law Enforcement is currently investigating a recent incident of suspected animal cruelty.
