Just three days ago, Aspen was found abandoned with a kennel on a Houston, Texas rural farm dirt road. He had been left for days with no food, no water and no shade from the hot sun; there was no way he could escape.

Three Little Pitties Rescue stepped up to help Aspen on Monday. At only five months of age, a cruel human had left him covered in maggots, severely underweight, bruised and suffering from skin infections and puncture wounds. He was barely able to lift his head.
When this boy was dropped off at our clinic today, he was covered in maggots — his skin raw, swollen, and oozing from severe mange. He cried the entire car ride, every whimper a reminder of the pain he’s been living in.
This is what cruelty looks like. But it’s also what rescue looks like; it’s all about the work of saving the ones no one else can or will.

And now, just a few days later, Aspen is feeling kindness for the first time.

On Wednesday, he took his first steps outdoors; yes, even though he’s shaky, slow and unsure of what is going on in his life, he is surrounded by the gentle hands of rescue and soft voices reassuring him that life is improving every day.
Aspen can barely stand on his own yet. His legs and paws are still swollen and painful, and infection continues to ooze from open sores across his body. But he’s fighting — and we’re right beside him every step of the way.
He’s severely underweight and needs to gain ten pounds. He also shows signs of stunted growth from months of malnutrition and neglect.
Donations are what make his care possible. Every dollar goes directly toward animals like Aspen – those currently in the clinic fighting for their lives and the next dog still waiting on the streets for someone to stop and help.

The rescue organization is also growing their community outreach programs to reach more animals before it’s too late offering food, vaccines and spay/neuter support to families and strays in need. Our medical bills alone exceed $150,000 each month as they care for more than 1,000 animals at a time — not including outreach costs.
