A lost pup had a “ruff” day in Louisville, Kentucky on Christmas Eve, but firefighters from the Pleasure Ridge Fire District were quick to respond and helped to rescue the frightened dog.

The small dog had fallen into an abandoned septic tank on Krages Avenue. Fire rescuers were able to pull the unharmed but smelly pup out after a roughly 25-minute operation. The incident highlights the dangers of old septic systems.

Firefighters used three engines to successfully rescue the dog, which included Engine 89, Engine 88 and Rescue 88. The community was extremely grateful to the heroes and congratulated rescuers on social media for a job well done.

Word had spread looking for the owner of the rescued Shih Tzu, and it was later reported the dog was reunited with his owner.
