Partially paralyzed Frenchie abandoned in cardboard box with note left at Austin rescue has the best new home bringing ‘joy’ to her mom

Just a few weeks ago, a staff member at Austin Pets Alive! (APA!) discovered a cardboard box left outside of the door. When she went over to check it out, there she was – an adorable Frenchie bulldog looking up at her with those big brown eyes. Surely, the chocolate and tan coated French bulldog had no idea why she was where she was or what had happened.

A mysterious note was attached to the box:

Found dog S. 1st & Congress. no owner has reached out.

The organization named her McNugget, and as soon as they lifted the sweet pup out of the cardboard box, it was readily apparent she could not use her hind legs. Radiographs were then performed, and the diagnosis was in – she had a collapsed disc about mid-spine and spondylosis, a degenerative spinal condition affecting the discs and joints between the vertebrae.

She is now able to stand on her hind legs, but is not able to walk on her back legs. Treatments and therapy are underway.

Although APA! is not an open admissions shelter, the person who turned in McNugget probably thought this is where the dog would receive the best care.

… McNugget, needed medical attention as she was dragging her hind legs. We imagine the person who brought her to us did so anonymously* because we aren’t open intake, but they knew that we’d ensure her safety, no matter what challenges lay ahead.

McNugget was soon in the care of a medical foster staff member who reported McNugget was “super chill”. Besides her little Frenchie grunts and snores, this pup just loves everyone and finds lots of pleasure receiving “face nuzzles.”

And now here’s the best part of this little girl’s story. Drum roll please. McNugget has just been adopted into a home where she is thriving. She has started taking her first steps and just smiles at her own progress as “her signature snorts, face nuzzles and big personality” rule that tiny body.

McNugget has a new name; meet Shrimpina. She’s loved, pampered and is adjusting well to her new home. Her family works with her special needs and absolutely enjoys the resilience this adorable pup meets each new day.

We can only wish every dog needing that second chance has the same luck as Shrimpina.
