In Madison, Wisconsin, 18 German shepherds of various ages ranging from adult dogs to puppies were rescued from a property in Lafayette County.

According to the Green County Humane Society and the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office found the severely malnourished dogs last Thursday. The dogs were not being cared for and barely fed. The rescued dogs included six adult German Shepherds, six 2- to 3-month-old puppies, and five 2-week-old puppies. A cat was also discovered. Sadly, one of the dogs was found dead on the property.

Several puppies are now being treated for Parvo, and the adult dogs are being treated for severe malnourishment.
The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that one person has been taken into custody and booked into the county jail. The owner, Jeslias Murillo-Lopez, 37, was arrested and faces 60 charges, including mistreating animals and bail jumping. He has been ordered to post a $25,000 cash bond and is not allowed to own any animals.
For now, the focus is on the dogs’ care and recovery.
While the dogs are not yet available for adoption, the Green County Humane Society anticipates that medical and behavioral rehabilitation will continue over the coming weeks and months. Those who are wishing to help can support this effort through donations of supplies or funds to our Emergency Medical Fund, which assists animals in crisis situations like this one.
The dogs will not be ready for fostering for at least two weeks. In the meantime, those who want to help can contribute monetary or supply donations.
