Mommy Taylor and her four newborn puppies had been abandoned on the side of the road in a laundry basket on Sunday while fires in the Los Angeles area ravaged homes, wildlife and humans alike. Shelters are overflowing with dogs and cats displaced or left behind by their families; some having to leave their pets behind because they couldn’t get back to save them and others who fled for their lives with only moments to spare.

Beagle Freedom Project had been contacted to help the mother dog and her four newborns. The organization immediately responded and agreed to help.

Two days later, Mommy Taylor and her puppies have been placed in a loving foster home. Taylor suffered some burns, but has since received veterinary care and is expected to make a full recovery. She has been caring for her puppies in a loving environment far away from the danger that nearly cost the entire family their lives.

The organization shared a photo and update of one of the six-day-old puppies.

This sweet little girl has some burns on her tiny nose and paw, but the vet says she’s going to be ok with medication and TLC. She is only six days old, and has already had to live through so much. We love you, little one. You are safe now.

In the event of a natural disaster, if you are forced to evacuate, never leave your pets behind. Be prepared; make sure you have carriers, harnesses, food, medication, and supplies at the ready for your animals at all times. You never know when disaster may strike.
