A nine-week-old puppy named Maverick was purchased from a Woodlands Mall pet store and had to be humanely euthanized after just one day.
According to Fox News, Taylor Rhodes and his girlfriend purchased an adorable miniature dachshund from Pet Fair, paying $6,500 for the puppy. The couple immediately bonded with the puppy. Just hours after purchasing the pup however, the couple brought Maverick to Blue Pearl Emergency Animal Hospital where he was diagnosed with bladder stones; and after examinations and testing, were told the puppy needed to be humanely euthanized.

After the couple notified the pet store about Maverick’s death, initially the store owners refused to pay the $2,000 vet bill, but have since changed their mind. The couple had purchased the puppy on a payment plan, and the store has also canceled future payments.
Pet Fair states they have been in business for 30 years and take pride in their pets.
According to Paws.org., choosing to bring a puppy home is exciting, but new puppy owners must be careful. About 80% of puppies for sale through pet stores, come from commercial breeding facilities that mass produce the pets for sale. Many store owners do take the word of the breeder that their facilities are geared for the health and happiness of the puppies, however many are nothing of the kind.

Then there are also backyard breeders who only breed their own dogs once in awhile, but do not always have the knowledge how to breed responsibly.
Puppy mills and backyard breeders are in it for the profit – so many times these adorable puppies may seem fine, but a day or two later, come down with illnesses, parasites, Parvo virus or congenital defects.
It is not known where or how Pet Fair originally purchased the puppy. Fox news channel reporters stepped into help Rhodes and settle the stiff financial burden having had been associated with the purchase and medical needs of Maverick for the young couple.
We hope the couple will consider adopting a puppy from a shelter or breed specific rescue organization. No doubt their hearts were in the right place.
Rest in peace Maverick.
