Just about a year ago, a senior dog named Buttercup, who had spent more than ten years in shelters was adopted. There is no doubt she was lucky enough to find her human who loves her unconditionally.
But first, before we urge you to smile from ear to ear this evening, let’s give readers a little background about Buttercup. She arrived at NYC Second Chance Rescue Center in Verplanck, New York, nearly three years ago. Before arriving at the Center, she had languished in a North Carolina shelter. By this time, she was ten years old and had spent too much time in kennels.
Buttercup has a personality larger than life. She has a cerebellar disorder that causes a wobbly gait and urinary incontinence. While she can’t climb many stairs, she is playful, goofy, and when motivated she can move very quickly.
She had been a favorite among the staff, and there’s no one who ever had a cross word to say about her. She was non reactive to dogs and passersby and liked to show off her great leash skills. At times she seemed selective with dogs, and after such a long time of having lived in shelters, it seemed only right that she find a calm home where Buttercup could be queen of her castle.

Everyday as visitors came through considering adopting a special new canine pal, it was always hoped someone would say, “I want THAT one,” and of course they would be pointing to Buttercup. Afterall she’s an older lady, didn’t ask for much and was more than ready to love and adore the lucky person who would bring her home.
And now we get to the best part. Meet Buttercup’s mom, Linda as our story continues:

for those of you who know about buttercup and her journey, i will do anything to make this precious senior happy.
During Christmas, Buttercup had taken a special liking to the Christmas tree set up in the corner of the living room. Linda noticed how Buttercup’s favorite spot to nap had been under the tree, so what’s a mom to do?
she loves the Christmas tree. I took the decorations off a month and a half ago, but i don’t have the heart to take it down. it’s her happy place.
Buttercup naps under the tree and has a special affinity to the lights.

she chooses to nap here, and when the lights aren’t on, she taps the branches. I let her think she controls it.
After years in shelters, this old girl is spoiled daily.
Linda wants people to excuse the presence of the tree as she loves to post joyful antics involving Buttercup.
so in the future pictures, please excuse the tree, which i’m not taking down this year.
Signed, Linda, Buttercup’s Forever Mom
Sweet dreams Buttercup. You are one special pooch and deserve the best life.
