At the Carson Animal Shelter in California, Payo (A5736378) and his brother Manchas (A5736384) were surrendered to the shelter. Two year old Payo is really missing his brother and his family. The 45-pound Boxer blend really needs our help. His life may soon end because no one has reached out to adopt him, and the shelter is overcrowded.

A5736378(altered) Payo’s shelter evaluation as of November 5, 2025: (Highlights)

“Payo had a tense timid demeanor and required a slow approach to be removed from the kennel. Payo was taken to the catch pen and was collared and leashed using a slow approach. He greeted the dogs at the barrier with a neutral demeanor and was allowed into the play yard. Payo displayed a tense body, closed mouth, ears back, low tail, and soft eyes. Payo allowed the dogs to sniff him but appeared uncomfortable…Payo did find found another calm dog in the yard, and they explored together… When near the handlers, Payo appeared interested in interacting but moved away when the handlers coaxed him over… He preferred to be among calm dogs… Payo could benefit from confidence building and further socialization.”

While Payo was in the play yard, the handler used the leash to reel him in closer. The dog allowed the handler to pet him on the head, but did appear uncomfortable. He was especially cautious when the handler tried to examine his legs and palpate his paws.

Payo is ok for public adults only required (+KHOA handling sensitivity lower extremities) low energy level calm dogs recommended.

As for Payo’s brother, Manchas (A5736384), both dogs are really missing home and each other.

Manchas’ evaluation as per shelter notes:

Manchas bypassed the dogs and went straight to the handlers seeking engagement from them. Initially he used the handlers as a shield and exchanged greetings as other calm dogs gathered around them. Manchas was shifted to the adjacent yard with other calm dogs. He exchanged greetings nicely, and he appeared more relaxed and sociable. He explored and continued to socialize nicely but after some time he appeared interested in the main yard. He pawed at the barrier and was allowed into the main yard again. Manchas exchanged greetings nicely and explored the yard. Manchas was given play bows, but he did not appear interested in playing. Manchas spent the remainder of the play session roaming the yard with a relaxed demeanor and was social with the calm dogs… Manchas could benefit from further socialization and confidence building.

Manchas is OK for public adoption medium energy level large dogs ok.
