Heartbreaking: One year old Max struggled to stay with family as they surrendered him to shelter for nipping new puppy

A beautiful Great Pyrenees, known for their loyalty and protection, was surrendered to the Lancaster Animal Shelter after the Fourth of July weekend. The one-year-old pup named Max obviously didn’t make the cut with his family; they surrendered him because he had become aggressive with their new puppy.

On july 4th max ‘went after’ the puppy.

The heartbreaking video showed the dog’s owner surrendering Max as the frightened pup tried desperately not to go into the temporary shelter while he was to wait until processed into the system. Max tried so hard to resist; everyone was in tears watching this young dog whose only wish was to go home and be done with the shelter.

Check out the video:

Adoption Listing:

Max will be evaluated by the shelter beginning July 14. At this time he remains in quarantine. Please don’t put your fingers into his kennel if you visit him; it can be scary for the dog and can also spread disease. Let’s give him a fair deal. He had been described as shut down and extremely depressed. It’s okay if treats are tossed into his kennel. Let him know people really do care.

Another video of Max in his kennel:

UPDATE: On Sunday, at the Lancaster Animals LA shelter, one of the dedicated volunteers and her family spent time with Max and coaxed him out of his corner. Since his surrender, Max had shut down. He refused to get up and didn’t want to eat. But on Sunday – thanks to the patience and compassion of the @stewart_family_fosters helped him take a small but meaningful step forward.

Max #A5711594 is currently on a mandatory quarantine through July 14 following a reported bite after an incident involving a puppy on July 4. Max cannot be removed from his kennel until that quarantine period is over. Once it ends, our behavior team will assess him to determine the best.

Here he is – breaking through his depressed state because people really do care:

Please share Max’s plight with approved rescues, families, friends and social media contacts. Sharing saves lives.
