Heartbreaking: One morning bonded dogs were home but by sundown they were clinging to each other at noisy shelter

At Lancaster Animal Care Center, two sweet dogs have no idea what “surrender” means. On November 29th, Bella and Frankie had a home, but by sundown the two were clinging to each other on a kennel bed, trembling in fright as they waited for their person to come back. The two had been surrendered to the shelter by their owner.

How heartbreaking to watch them trying their best to shrink into the corner of their concrete kennel and wonder what they had done wrong.

Frankie is a pit/boxer breed mix who has already endured more than any dog should. He was born in January 2024 and he and his sister Bella had been found as strays. The two were adopted together in April 2024, but they were surrendered back to the shelter by their owner in November.

Frankie has been neutered and has received all of his vaccinations. He had a promise from a foster, but it fell through and Frankie was just returned to the shelter. He is now alone, terrified and does not understand why he’s alone again – this time without Bella.

Volunteers and shelter staff describe Frankie as sweet, affectionate and people focused. He wants to be loved, sit on your lap and nap on the couch. He walks well on a leash, but needs a supportive owner to help him build his self confidence. He has only lived with his sister, so he would likely be fine as an only dog.

Poor Frankie has been failed again and again. He is listed as HIGH RISk.
