In a joint statement from Animal Care Centers of New York City (ACC) and the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) on Saturday, 40 Belgian Malinois have been rescued; their ages spanning from puppies to full grown adults. The dogs had been living in an overcrowded, filthy apartment in New York City.

Reportedly, the dogs have never seen the sunlight outdoors or walked on grass.
The dogs were found in unbelievable sections of the apartment; some had been locked in closets and cupboards. Most of the dogs are reported to have never been outside of the apartment.

According to Tara Mercado, ACC’s Director of Behavior and Shelter Operations:
these dogs have reportedly lived in total confinement their entire lives. We found full grown malinois hidden behind furniture and in cabinets.
they’ve likely never touched grass, walked on a leash or met a stranger.
The dogs are being examined, and at this time are not socialized and in need of long term behavioral support. They are not available for adoption. The dogs are curious, and that’s definitely a good sign.
Please share and help. Animal Care Centers of New York City are currently caring for more than 200 dogs in their Queens Care Center. There are 175 more dogs in Manhattan and Staten Island Care Centers.

We all know how New York City animal lovers step up to help in emergencies like this. The fee to adopt any dog over 40 pound has now been waived. The shelters are all open this weekend for adoptions from 11:00 to 5:00.
Please volunteer to foster or adopt. You will be gaining a best friend and helping to save another life.
Come on … check these sweethearts out; just waiting to fall in love with you.
