Grateful dog with frozen painful paws lived alone in abandoned building afraid of everyone couldn’t stop kissing her rescuers

At Stray Rescue of St. Louis, temperatures have been in the single digits. Local residents and police officers had spotted a dog living alone in an abandoned building. The snow and ice had piled up; there had been no sunshine to even partially melt the slippery and dangerous conditions of the exterior, but there she was – a small black and white dog who looked just like “cookies and cream” trying to survive.

As the life saving officer, Donna Lochmann arrived, she spotted blood on the surface of the snow where the dog had been walking. Her feet had been bleeding from being out in the ice and snow.

When rescuers first arrived, the dog was scared. She so wanted to trust the people who were there tossing out tasty bits of food and whispering softly, but she couldn’t take the leap of faith to get close enough so Donna could place a lead over her head and around her neck.

The next step – set a humane trap. It wasn’t long before she stepped in. She couldn’t resist a warm meal; she was so hungry and so skinny. Scavenging to stay alive had been so difficult amidst the severe weather.

some of our police friends and heroes, Officer Ottengheime and Officer Stevens, were patrolling the area and met us at the property to help carry the trap down a steep staircase, covered in ice.

Finally safe in the Jeep and on her way back to the rescue, the dog’s feet were thawing out as ice pieces melted and fell away.

Now here’s the best part. When she finally arrived and warmed up in the shelter, she climbed up in everyone’s lap.

…giving thankful wet kisses to everyone. she’s been the most affectionate little bundle of joy now that she is safe.

Welcome Dippin Dottie, named because of her black and white spots on her coat.

These are the promises to this sweet pup:

Baby, you will never EVER shiver again.

🤍 Your feet will never feel like fire.

You will never feel the ache from a hollow belly again.

🤍 You will never be so lonely, so scared.

You’re free, you’re safe.

Who can foster Dippin Dottie? Right now she is in a crate because the shelter is too overfull. Let’s get her on a couch. YOUR COUCH! Can you come get someone special today? Tomorrow? Let us know!
