Three dogs; it had been the mom and her two puppies crammed into a cage in the back of an open pick up truck on Tuesday outside of a local rural shelter. The owner wanted to surrender the three dogs, but the shelter was already overflowing.
The shelter told the owner of the dogs they had no more kennels, no room and no options. This is what “nowhere to go looks like” Hounds In Pounds, a non profit organization in New Jersey, dedicated to saving the lives of dogs from death row and poor communities in Georgia and other southern states, stated after the heartbreaking photos of the three dogs had started making their way through social media.
The shelter had to return the dogs to the person who had surrendered them.

Can you imagine? Walking back into a world where you’re unwanted, unseen, unprotected. Knowing you could be abandoned at any moment. These dogs understand that feeling.
Dogs like this are often abandoned in isolated areas, left in parking lots and meet up with the most dangerous fates. Their stories too often end before they have had the chance for their lives to even begin.
This time, however this family has been rescued. Hounds In Pounds saw the photos of the dogs in the cage in the back of the pickup truck. There they were; a frightened family bouncing up and down with no idea why they were in a cage, but they knew this was not a good situation for them. And that’s the brutal reality many dogs face when there’s no space left.
One call later the shelter responded and appreciated the offer to help.

This is how it should be; shelters and rescues working together, hand in hand. A lifeline, woven together, giving dogs a second chance where there was none.
Now these three; gentle, beautiful and full of sweetness, are safe. And they’ve been given names that match their spirit of survival:
Captain Morgan (the adult)
Bootstrap Bill (male puppy)
Blackbeard (male puppy)
They’re with Dr. Terry for checkups, vaccinations, and surgeries. Soon, they’ll be ready to leave the vet’s boarding facility. Soon, they’ll need foster homes.
