Frail senior beagle found lying on side of road barely alive lifted his head when animal control officer approached

In Northampton County in North Carolina, a frail senior beagle has slowly been recuperating and getting a chance at a new life. James, as he has been named by Triangle Beagle Rescue, was recently found lying on the side of a lonely road; he was barely alive as buzzards flew around him, determined he was soon to be carrion.

It had to have been a heartless human who dropped him off along the rural road; pretty sure no one would find him until it was too late. The neglected 14-pound dog’s teeth were rotting in his mouth; he was weak and covered in fleas and ticks as if he had been left alone to suffer for a long period of time.

Fortunately, an animal control officer found James in the nick of time. The moment the dog spotted the kind man bending down over him, James lifted his head as if to say, “I’m here. Help me please!”

Senior beagle James was found lying on the side of a rural road barely moving with buzzards pecking at him. He had been left to die. A senior dog with broken down legs, rotting teeth, and a body crawling with ticks, James was in heartbreaking condition. Thanks to a fast response of his rescuers, James was brought to safety and rushed to the vet and made his way to TBR. He is now flourishing in a loving foster home! #beagle #beagles #beagletok #houndhouse #rescuedog #dogtok #seniordog #adoptdontshop #fosterdog

Getting stronger everyday…

Upon James’ arrival at Triangle Beagle Rescue, he was medically treated and immediately began receiving the tender care and love he so deserves. Although he is quite timid, he loves his dog bed, likes other dogs and is very sweet and calm.

James had not been tested with children or cats, but he would probably do best in a quiet home for now.

He is beginning his heartworm treatment and needs to rest.

We don’t know how much time he has, but whether it’s for a few months or a few years, we’re committed to making the rest of his life full of softness, peace, and love. If you’d like to be part of James’s story—by fostering, adopting, or donating toward his care—we would love to hear from you. He’s already endured the worst. Now, it’s time he experiences the best.
