In January 2021, Rome was just a puppy when he slipped out of his yard in Perris, California and disappeared. His family searched all over for their precious puppy. It had been a stormy day, and when the puppy had been left outdoors for a few minutes to relieve himself, the wind had blown down the gate to the family’s fenced in yard. Minutes later, the puppy had wandered away and disappeared. More than likely, Rome got lost, and even likelier someone had picked up the adorable puppy and never bothered to check his microchip or look for his rightful owner.

His family hung posters everywhere, asked friends and neighbors to search for Rome and repeatedly checked dog rescues and animal shelters for their beloved dog. There were no sightings; Rome had disappeared.
Rome’s lost poster circulated around the area; no one ever turned him in nor admitted they had found the puppy.
In a mysterious turn of events, and definitely unexpected, more than a 1,000 miles away and four years later, someone had left a bulldog and a chihuahua tied up at the front gate of Austin Pets Alive!.

It had been Rome’s microchip that made the difference – his family was notified and immediately made arrangements to drive out to Texas to reclaim their treasured pup.
Check out the video:
“Rome was found tied to a gate at @austinpetsalive over 1,000 miles away with no ID, alongside a small chihuahua. Thanks to his microchip, we traced him back to his original family, who drove across state lines for an emotional, tear-filled reunion.
Today, Rome is finally back with the family that never stopped loving him, and he’s on his way back to California to start his next chapter–right where he belongs!”

No doubt this was a wonderful reunion. His family wasn’t sure Rome would remember them, but by the looks of the video, it appears this boy does. The cutest part was when Rome’s dad remarked how much his pup had grown.

Can we remind you why this story has such a happy ending and Rome is where he should be?
Microchips reunite families. Make sure your pets’ is up to date!
And please not the little chihuahua that had been tied to the gate along with Rome has been adopted to a wonderful family.
