A five-year-old fluffy husky named Funshine Bear had lost his zest for life after “his person” surrendered him to the Central Nebraska Humane Society.
The shelter posted a photo of Funshine asleep in the sun, taking a nap and just lying still as if nothing in life interested him anymore.

The shelter staff were all heartbroken:
He may not be one of our longest residents, but shelter life is wearing him down. This once spunky, adventurous soul now spends his days looking lost, uninterested even in the simple joys of a sunny walk or a favorite toy. It breaks our hearts to see the light dim in a dog who used to chase every moment with joy.
The shelter went on to explain how Funshine had been abandoned by the person he trusted most in life. Being the true loyal dog he was, Funshine waited day after day for his person to return. Sadly, that was never to happen.
He still believed in people, though. His eyes would soften when he spotted a familiar face. He loves kids and recently stole the show as the guest of honor at the Grand Island Area Farmers Market.
But what he really needs is someone who sees past the kennel walls and recognizes the bright, loyal companion waiting on the other side.
And just a few days after the shelter posted Funshine’s heartbreaking story, it was his time. Social media helped to make the connection.

Funshine met the children! The moment they met, the shelter described it as “watching a storybook ending unfold in real time.”
The were lots of giggles, laughter and happy tail wags. Funshine instantly fell in love with the two kids, and they fell in love right back.
The kind of pure joy and connection that can’t be faked—it was just meant to be.
To everyone who rooted for him, shared his story, or stopped to spend time with him while he waited, thank you. You helped keep his hopes alive.
And to his new family: thank you for seeing the light in him, even when it had started to fade.
And now there’s lots of sunshine in Funshine Bear’s life.
Happy life, sweet boy. You’ll never be alone again.
Never give up hope. And this is how sharing and caring saves lives. Many thanks to everyone who help in their own special ways. You are all very much appreciated. And thank you for reading.
