Meet “Snowman” (ID#244254) who is currently at Brooklyn Animal Care Center in New York City because someone abandoned him on December 23 and left him tied up and muzzled.

It had been a Good Samaritan who found Snowman and felt sorry for him, but as she slowly approached him, he started to growl in pure panic mode. To Snowman, he had likely watched his owner walk away, and then this stranger came up to him; he didn’t know her. Was she going to hurt him he may have thought?

The woman called 311 and asked for help for the dog, but the dispatcher told her nothing could be done until the morning. With the extremely cold weather that night, the dog could have suffered from frostbite or worse. Even after the woman called the police and waited for nearly three hours, no one came to help.
Fortunately, the woman was trying to help him, and like most people who had seen him tied and muzzled who walked away, she did not. Instead, she posted his photos on social media, asking for help.

And then as a last resort and determined not to leave the dog alone in the freezing cold, both tethered and muzzled, she was able to attach a lead and walked him to the police station. Just like a dog’s loyalty, and even though it certainly seemed as though he had been abandoned, Snowman fought back – he didn’t want to leave the spot where he was likely told by his previous, heartless owner to “stay.”
The police subsequently brought Snowman to the Brooklyn Animal Care Center, but no one from the shelter had returned that Good Samaritan’s calls since the dog arrived.
This kind woman is trying to find out about him. she has called the brooklyn Acc and has emailed them but they never got back to her and she is worried about but she couldn’t keep him.
His harness read “mama I’m special” but we are guessing, his “mama” didn’t love him anymore.
A volunteer was finally able to obtain more information about Snowman. The dog is currently at the shelter and is frightened, withdrawn and unwilling to have contact with anyone. The shelter suspects he many be deaf, but a total assessment has yet to be completed.
Snowman is currently on a mandatory “stray hold” however the Good Samaritan who found him is hoping to visit him at the shelter and through social media and approved rescue organizations, find him a foster or an adopter.
I am willing to pay for his adoption fee as well as his board and train for a week. I have a great woman who takes in my animals and difference it makes is huge.
