At Los Angeles based Outta the Cage, rescuers saved Milo from euthanasia at the West Valley Animal Shelter nearly nine-months ago. He currently lives with his trainer, and the sociable and loveable dog is still waiting for his happily ever after.
His friends describe him as loving kids and a friendly pooch who wags his tail like he’s dancing. He loves baths, short walks and lounging on the couch like a prince.
It had been the beginning of September when the three-year-old pup had an adoption offer. Everyone was excited including Milo, but suddenly the family backed out. His rescuer, Jill Dyche had been in the car with Milo ready to take him to his new home when she received the call; the adopter had withdrawn his offer.
Sadly, this had not been Milo’s first rejection, and Jill remained silent, however there was no fooling this clever pup who sensed her sadness. At that moment, Milo gently placed his paw on her shoulder as if trying to comfort her:
i think he was consoling me. i’m with you.
Dogs can sense our disappointment. Even when our rational minds take over (black pittie… it’s gonna take a while…), every rescue that falls through is another little crack in your heart. We’ll stay upbeat for Milo’s sake. But this dog isn’t stupid.
Milo still needs a home. He’s healthy and friendly and likes to stay busy. Whether it’s an adoption event, training session, or just a fun car ride, Milo’s proven to be the best dog to just hang with.

He’s housetrained, crate trained, dog-friendly, kid-friendly and still waiting.
AND yes, he’s a pitbull and he’s black which makes Milo invisible to so many people. Please share his story. We don’t agree that he’s invisible – Milo is a great dog.
‘It’s like judging a book by its cover,’ says Jill. ‘But he’s a great friend waiting to be chosen.’
THE IDEAL HOME
- Best match: a relaxed household with or without older kids
- Other dogs? good with calm dogs
- Cats? unknown
- Kids? loves kids, we’d say kids over 10
