A disabled Yorkshire terrier, missing one of his front legs, was left abandoned outside of the Wake County Animal Center late last week. He had been left in a cardboard box overnight and when found had been shivering from the cold.
The tiny pup had barely been able to move; his front right leg had already been amputated, and his back leg was shattered, He struggled just to sit up and move around. When found, he had been covered in his own waste because his movement was limited.
The rescue group, Perfectly Imperfect Pups stepped up to help; the little guy was named Benji. According to the rescue’s director, Nicole Kincaid, the only way to help Benji was surgery. It had been his back right leg that had been shattered, which left him with no usable legs on his right side.
Kincaid believes the expensive medical costs from the dog’s broken leg might have been why his owners abandoned him in front of an animal shelter, hoping someone would take care of him. Of course, it’s not the way to surrender a dog, and what could have happened to Benji is unthinkable.

The good news – veterinarian surgeons were optimistic they could save his leg. Surgery costs were estimated to be from $5,000 to $6,000.
Amazingly, despite the challenges and his discomfort, Benji continued to trust his rescuers; always ready to give kisses and happily wag his tail.

Despite the pain, Benji continues to wag his tail and give kisses to everyone he meets. We’re sharing a video of him trying his best to walk—and it’ll break your heart and inspire you all at once.
We need your help to give Benji the future he deserves.
Last week Benji underwent surgery. He is now recovering in a foster home and will be available for adoption once he recovers.
