Kinda embarked on a new adventure last week when she left the Brookfield Zoo Chicago to be a featured young star and of course, a beautiful addition to the giraffe herd at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

The reticulated giraffe was born at Brookfield Zoo Chicago in 2023, and without a doubt, soon won over the hearts of zoo guests after she made her public appearance that September. Her name, Kinda, (rhymes with Linda) was chosen from Swahili and Arabic origins – meaning beautiful.

Kinda is a very confident young giraffe, and when she arrived at her new home walked casually off the trailer, investigated the barn and soon made friends with the other giraffes – Muziki, Lakiipia and Msitu. She’s been showing off to zoo guests and is enjoying meeting people, and of course being fed in the giraffe barn before she is allowed out with all the others.

For even more interaction with the giraffe, the zoo has initiated a new experience for guests with the drawbridge:

On warm, sunny days, the drawbridge will stay in the ‘up’ position and guests can visit and feed giraffe in the yard, which will temporarily restrict guest access to the giraffe barn.
On cooler days, when the giraffe are inside, the drawbridge is lowered, and guests can visit and feed the giraffes in the barn. So, no matter the weather or drawbridge position, you can always feed giraffe at CMZoo.
AND here she is:
Enjoy your new family Kinda. We’re sure you’ll be having fun.

For the curious, reticulated giraffe consists of large, polygonal blocklike spots which extend onto the lower legs, tail and face. These prominent liver-red spots also show less white between them when compared to other species of giraffe.
