In Old Westbury, New York, a golfer has quite a story to tell. For those of you in the know of at least the basic terminology for golf, this particular golfer had hit his golf ball on the green and was close enough to engage in a well placed short putt.
In a video however, the golfer took a back seat to a bald eagle, who spotted the ball from a tree branch and surely thought it was a snack. As the man hit the ball onto the green in a successful approach shot and was quite confident this would be a “birdie” (one stroke under par for a hole), the eagle had alternate plans. An “eagle” in golf is two shots under par for a hole).
As the eagle descended towards the golf ball, a man could be heard yelling to the golfer:
yo, he’s going for your ball!
And then it happens! The eagle can be seen on the video hopping on the ball and clutching it with his talons. He tries to get the ball clenched securely, but may have figured out that it wasn’t going to be good eating and flew away.
Of course, there’s always a rule for crazy stuff in sports, and for golf if any animal or “outside agent” moves a golf ball, then the ball must be placed in the spot where it was moved.
