The staff and volunteers smiled, albeit we can’t discount the happy tears, as Jones, a sweet senior dog left the Humane Society of Miami to his new home. A family who had been grieving the loss of their own dog spotted Jones on social media and felt an instant connection.

The Ultimate & Final Jones Update! ✨ After waiting almost five years for his forever home, Jones was FINALLY adopted today! His adopters recently lost their senior pet, and when they saw Jones’ viral videos, they instantly fell in love. They told us he reminded them of their beloved pet, and they couldn’t bear the thought of him spending his final years without a family. It’s always a bittersweet moment when our long-timers walk out those doors with their new families, but we couldn’t be happier for our sweet man, Jones. Jones has been, and always will be, a favorite among our staff, volunteers, foster parents, and Bark Around Town crew. We know who’s about to be extra spoiled! We hope he and his family come visit us soon. A HUGE thank you to everyone who posted, shared, and advocated for Jones—you helped him find his perfect match! ❤️ Now, onto finding loving homes for the rest of our seniors and long-timers! #adopted #happytails #jones #humanemiami #humanesocietymiami #adoptaseniorpet #adoptadog #adoptaseniordog

And so the five years Jones waited for his perfect family paid off and came true this week.

Of course, the dog’s adoption turned out to be quite a day at the rescue organization. We can only imagine the bittersweet moment when Jones was about to exit the shelter with his new mom. The emotions of the staff and volunteers, who had been with the dog for this length of time, brought happy tears to their eyes, but it was a good moment, and there was no doubt Jones would have the perfect retirement.

The dog’s popularity and the great news of his adoption garnered more than 48,000 views with thousands of comments wishing him well.

And just in case you want to see more of Jones and his incredible new beginning, his new family has an Instagram account that we promise will continue to bring happy tears and lots of smiles.
