A four-year-old boy from Oxford, Michigan has raised more than $2,000 for K9 Stray Rescue by collecting throwaway cans and inspiring local business owners to contribute to the worthy cause.

Meet Easton Peterson, who earlier in November started to collect soda cans/bottle returns so he could continue fundraising for K9 Stray Rescue League right in Oxford. By November 10, he had surpassed $1,200 and hoped to continue growing that donation.

Easton had chosen charity work as his virtue for a school assignment and wanted to help dogs without homes. When he found out that shelter dogs didn’t have families, he was saddened and wanted to make a difference.

What began as a small project quickly blossomed into quite the family routine. Everyday the trunk to collect bottles and jars were filled to the top. And then it didn’t take long for community members to pitch in and donate.
Easton’s mom, Ali, offered to help:
Would be happy to pick up your cans, just comment or message me. Let’s get these deserving dogs the funds and resources they need. Thanks
By the end of October, this amazing young man had won the hearts of the dogs at the rescue.
Easton and his parents stopped by to drop off all the donations he was able to gather by returning cans and bottles he collected from his neighbors and meet our dogs! Easton was able to bring us toys, treats, and cleaning supplies PLUS $980 in cash ($687 he collected and $293 from cans and bottles we picked up from a kind person who saw Easton’s story on WDIV Local 4 / ClickOnDetroit )!! We are so grateful for Easton and his family for supporting the dogs at our rescue like Billy giving mom appreciative kisses! Thank you from our dogs wet noses to the tip of their tails for your hard work and support!!
Easton dreams of becoming a professional golfer one day. He also has a dog he loves.
On Tuesday, December 2, (Giving Tuesday) Easton and his family will be visiting K9 Stray Rescue to present the grand total of the funds and merchandise they have collected.
What a hero, and Easton is only 4-years-old. Thank you young man – we love you too.
