A 20-year-old Doxie, named Sprout, recently lost his elderly human companion. No wonder he was confused and sad; he had refused to eat and continued to mourn the loss of his best friend. He was taken to a local shelter who contacted the Rhode Island based Vintage Pet Rescue for help.
Losing a loving companion is difficult for both dogs and humans.

The shelter had already given him the necessary vaccinations, and when volunteers arrived to pick him, Sprout was ready to leave.
Check out his video:
Did Sprout got his name from the tiny hairs sprouting from his head? The staff has already fallen in love with him.

This little guy is definitely hospice; 20 years is an impressive age for any dog. Until it is his time to cross the Rainbow Bridge, Sprout will enjoy all the comforts of home plus maybe more? Someone just purchased a memory foam bed for Sprout’s most comfortable naps.
And yes, Sprout is a hospice rescue, but he is comfortable and loved, and whether he has days, weeks or longer, he’s welcome and already loved.

Unfortunately, he hasn’t been interested in eating. He mostly sleeps but enjoys napping outside in the sun and being held and petted.

Sprout’s sweet photos, videos and story have broken the hearts of social media, but his lovely senior care facility and the staff who dote over him in the best ways are also making us smile.
Take care Sprout. You have lots of people who already love you.
