It had been Sunday, December 7, when Layla’s photo went viral on social media. The dog’s heartbreaking photo indicated she had been left out in the cold Missouri weather, and although kind hearted neighbors tried to feed her, the dog seemed unable to eat properly.

And just a few hours later, Second Chance Ranch, an animal advocacy and rescue organization had been sent the photo and immediately agreed to help, despite being at full capacity:

There’s no room at the Inn, but we can’t turn senior dogs away who are out in the cold; freezing and starving. This sweet girl is coming to us today. She has no name. We don’t know what to expect….all we know is we will love her and care for her, and give her the life she deserves.
Just one day later, she had a name and a purpose back in her life. According to her rescuers, Layla (her new name) is sweet and loving with everyone she meets. She might have every reason in the world not to like people or trust them, but all she wants is to “bury her head in your shoulder.”
Many happy days to come in Layla’s future. Many thanks to everyone who helped. Miracles do happen.
