In an Instagram video posted by a shocked visitor at Mount Evans in Colorado, an irresponsible dog owner could be seen letting his dog off its leash to chase a mountain goat and her baby. The account Tourons of National Parks (@toursofnationalpark) showed how the baby goat was separated from her mother as the dog chased the mom.

Dogs are allowed on Mount Evans, but they must be on a handheld leash at all times‼️
This is to ensure the safety of both dogs and wildlife, as dogs can scare wildlife if they are off-leash. Additionally, it’s important to clean up after your dog‼️
As if it must be explained again and again, but as always, some people, like the man thinking it was amusing watching his dog chase a wild goat ( as they may become aggressive, especially when protecting their young), it is important for the dog’s safety as well as the protection of all wildlife in national parks to abide by the rules. All wild animals deserve respect and caution – obey the signs and stay back the required distance as posted for everyone’s safety.
It is very sad indeed when wild animals are chased or harassed, and they are injured; many times it will mean they will not survive in their natural habitats or will have to be humanely euthanized. And when a wild animal gets into an altercation with a human – even if it’s the person’s obnoxious behavior annoying or attempting to get too close, if the human is injured, more often than not, the wild animal winds up losing their life.
It is truly infuriating, and please report people behaving badly to wildlife at our national parks to the nearest park ranger.
