In Hancock County, Mississippi, Clifford the Red Dog has competition. Meet Fiona the Green Puppy who was one of a litter of puppies born recently. The owners’ two American Pit Bulls, Pearl and Harley are the proud canine parents.
Annise Tooley, one of the owner’s, didn’t take notice at first, but when the other puppies were born an entirely different color, and this one was “shamrock green” she was worried, puzzled and completely surprised. So what’s a doggie mom to do? Of course, Annise sat down at her computer and googled the following:

why is one of my puppies that my American pit had …green?
Other puppies occasionally are born with green hues, but typically the color disappears within a few weeks. So why not incorporate all this into naming this adorable little one?

The green hue is due to the puppy’s exposure to a green bile pigment with biliverdin in the mother’s womb.
And her name is FIONA. If you haven’t been keeping up with animated movies, surely you still remember Shrek. His lovely girl friend’s name was Fiona.
The couple already have two dogs, and will be giving the puppies away, including Fiona, to good homes when they are old enough.
Please spay and neuter your pets.
