Conrad is a 13-week-old puppy who had been attacked by another dog. He was found on the street in McAllen, Texas on Friday and sustained severe injuries. His left ear was torn apart, and he was partially scalped with his skull exposed. He had puncture wounds on the entire front half of his body. And if that wasn’t enough for a puppy barely beginning life, three of his legs were fractured.

On his right forelimb, the end of the humorous bone had snapped. He also suffers from a facture on his left forelimb radius and a fracture on his left hind limb.

The distance from McAllen to Houston is approximately a six hour car trip, and because of Conrad’s serious condition, rescuers found a pilot with a private plane who volunteered his time to fly him to Houston.

Welcome the puppy’s hero Jason who volunteered his time on Sunday helping get Conrad to where he needed to be.
We see so much ugly in the world and it’s refreshing to have such a wonderful human involved that helps restore faith in humanity! He put all plans on hold to help us change an injured pup’s life. We’re beyond thankful for him.
Conrad arrived in Houston; a friend and pet transporter had been waiting at the airport and drove him to Blue Pearl ER.

We know there’s a long road ahead for Conrad. We’re prepared for every step. Thanks to all of you who show us your continued support, we know you’re there every step of the way too. Thank you to those who help support our mission of focusing on the sick & injured pups that need us the most.
This was the first time working with the veterinary clinic in McAllen as well as working to coordinate all the moving parts of this rescue. Meanwhile, Conrad had been holding his own. He was in a shock-like state when he arrived. He began vocalizing overnight, which usually isn’t a good sign, but a dose of ketamine helped. Soon Conrad would be ready to travel.
By the next day, Conrad had been resting comfortably medicated with a morphine, lidocaine and ketamine drip. He actually began eating chicken and soft canned food. He had splints on his three broken limbs placed; all vitals were normal but his temp was a little low; a common side effect from the pain medication drip.
Early on Sunday morning, Jason flew Conrad to Houston from McAllen where he was found. Conrad is now currently resting comfortably at Blue Pearl ER which is a specialty hospital. He had been throwing up small amounts during his trip, and Blue Pearl says he’s got ileus; ileus is a temporary lack of the normal muscle contractions of the intestines.

A urinary catheter placed, along with a jugular catheter anD feeding tube. They rebandaged his splints on all 3 legs. All his vitals are stable including blood pressure. He’s on various meds including good pain meds.
Conrad was quite dull a few hours ago, and his veterinarian suspected it to be from his PCV (packed cell volume) dropping, so they started a blood transfusion. The surgery team arrives later today, so he’ll get a consultation with them for the next steps as far as his broken bones and laceration repairs.
It is hoped Conrad can get through all of this.
Updates to follow.
