At the Valley Animal Center in Fresno, California, seven-year-old Mother Gothal had been at the shelter for more than 900 days without any adoption offerings. Maybe she was a pit bull type with a big head and sturdy looking body? Maybe she wasn’t pretty enough, or maybe she was too old? After all, many families come to the shelter to adopt puppies, and the senior dogs are too often overlooked. Why?
By the time a dog has celebrated a few birthdays, she likely won’t chew up that expensive shoe, will ask to go outside to go to the bathroom and will enjoy being a couch potato on those afternoons or evenings when a new Netflix movie debuts.
So for nearly 900 days, the good natured and friendly pup waited for a human to call her own. No doubt, she was a shelter favorite, but everyone is always overjoyed whenever any of the pups are adopted and get to live happily ever after.
It had been a Christmas present for Mother Gothal; on December 27, 2023 she had been adopted:

We love seeing every dog and cat that comes through our doors get adopted, but what is even better is when one of our long-term residents finally gets their fur-ever home. Mother Gothal (25031) was in our care for a little over 2 years, which is not ideal for any dog. She was a staff and volunteer favorite, and no one could understand why she spent that long in our care. She had the biggest smile on her face and the fastest wagging tail as she walked to their car, it’s like she knew! This was the moment we all dreamt of, nothing makes us happier. We hope one day, all of our long-term friends get that same experience, but for now we are just ecstatic that Mother Gothal gets that chance! We love you, Mother Gothal!
And off she went – everyone believing Mother Gothal would be living the best life possible for the rest of your life.

we were overjoyed when she found a loving home after being with us for so long. Unfortunately after just a few months, she was returned to us. it’s heartbreaking to see her so sad.

She just makes all of us want to cry, so here’s our plea at Pet Rescue Report asking everyone to share this dog’s story and video and help her find a loving home again. We don’t know why she was returned, but there has been an increase in dogs at shelters, we can only hope the statistics improve and more dogs are adopted while less are surrendered.
Help control the over population of dogs and cats by doing what is right – spay and neuter. And when looking for your next four legged friend, don’t shop when you can adopt.
