Senior dog returned back to shelter at 15 ‘just because she was old’

Spread the love

In San Antonio, Texas, a dog adopted from a local shelter was surrendered back after reaching the ripe old age of 15 because she had been showing signs of old age. If we all live long enough, we all get there, but it is especially painful for our dogs – they love us unconditionally.

After 15 years, Breni had been returned to San Antonio Animal Care Services.

it is beyond heart-wrenching for us to receive a pet in their senior years again after having been adopted as young babes. But, breni is back and deserves nothing less than a loving home to live out the remainder of her golden years.

Facebook shelter notes

Breni was rescued by God’s Dogs Rescue where she is being loved and doted on for the rest of her sweet life.

This senior sweetheart enjoys behind-the-ear scratches and going for brief slow walks. She met a playful young pup, where she peacefully coexists and explores the yard. After she had enough exploring, she wanders up to the closest person and will gently rest her head on their lap awaiting pets.

In a heartbreaking TikTok video posted by @adoptdontshopsatx, the poster Shane Yasser:

Dogs with dementia can act similarly to people with Alzheimer’s. Owners can lessen the negative effects by understanding what is happening. Exercise in dogs is linked to brain health and mental well-being. Moderate exercise gets blood flowing, which in turn brings more oxygen to the brain. Now mix that with some fun adventures with your senior pup – those new sights and smells bring out their curiosity and zest for life.

Most symptoms include disrupted sleep, forgetfulness and walking into things.

Not all dogs get dementia ( canine cognitive dysfunction), and it is difficult to diagnose.

The really disappointing owners often don’t want their dogs once the pet starts displaying odd behaviors, and instead of taking them to a veterinarian for a full exam, decide that their dog peeing on the floor too many times is unacceptable and surrender them to the shelter.

And although no one can know for sure why an owner surrenders a senior dog, we should put ourselves in the place and mind of a 15-year-old pet who has only known one home; and suddenly they are in a shelter filled with loud noises, strangers and endless barking from other dogs.

And the strangers – “where is my human” the pup wants to know every moment, every day and every week until someone kind like God’s Dog Rescue comes to help, or this poor soul is led down a lonely hall and her last waking memory was a stranger – not her loving human telling her she was loved and had been a very good dog.

  1. Texans are PURE EVIL. PERIOD! This is very expected as they pride themselves on taking a woman’s life, letting known rapists out after ONE DAY, while Abbott allows everyone to beat, starve and sadistically abuse any living beings they choose.
