At the Palmdale facility for the Los Angeles County Animal Shelter, a nine-year-old miniature poodle had been discarded as if his life never mattered. The shelter staff named him Martin, and the senior pup was left alone and hid in the corner of his kennel, hoping if he curled himself as tight as he could, no one would see him, and his crippling feelings of fright would magically disappear.
They said he’s too ‘ugly’ to be loved. But what he needs isn’t beauty—it’s kindness.
It’s obvious that the dog’s disheveled appearance hid the real story of a life spent with little care or love. When families passed by his kennel, they called poor little Martin “ugly.” His matted coat, along with his brown sad eyed expression when he looked up shelter staff, has been heartbreaking. Was it any surprise, Martin didn’t want anyone touching him?
No doubt Martin needs kindness. Sadly, he is at a high kill, overcrowded shelter. At this point in this little guy’s life, he doesn’t need to be beautiful; he needs someone to show him kindness, patience and some soft words to assure him that life can get better.

Martin’s life can still turn around—will you be the one to show him that love sees beyond appearances? Don’t let him be another forgotten soul.
