Princessa is a nine-month-old Shiba Inu mix, who is currently a guest at the non profit New York rescue, Linus & Friends. Her former family had surrendered her to the New York City Animal Care Centers simply because they had no time. It would seem that Princessa was a spirited puppy and was never taught basic manners, so she would routinely mouth and jump on people – you know normal puppy stuff.

On July 23, the city shelter placed Princessa on the euthanasia list. Her supporters spoke up and asked for help:
She’s only 9 months old and now her life is about to end simply because she needs to learn her basic puppy commands of “down” and “place,” calming commands that would help her not give everyone jump up hugs, and for thinking the rope leash is a tug o’ war toy. Of course PRINCESSA is feeling overwhelmed in the shelter environment, she is just a baby and her parent gave her up for the lamest excuse — no time! But she arrived all wiggly, and she’s highly social, filled with energy, and very sweet. Her family said she is friendly and outgoing with everyone, people and dogs alike! She simply wants to be loved and paid attention too, but right now this 27 pound pixie has been sitting in a pop up crate 24 hours a day, just hoping for someone to come visit her and bring her for a walk.
We can’t always blame the shelters – after all they are dealing with overcrowded conditions full of adorable, pure bred puppies, silly dogs, gentle dogs, old dogs and dogs who are so frightened, they cower in their shelter cages afraid to even make eye contact. Had Princessa’s former owner taken even a moderate amount of responsibility training the puppy, chances are she wouldn’t have been on the euthanasia list nor would she have been categorized as “rescue only.”

Fortunately, Linus & Friends stepped up to help and of course, she is learning her basic commands, but no one has wanted to adopt her. Princessa frequently attends adoption events, and the look on her face as she watches the other dogs happily leaving with their new families, is heartbreaking.
Check this out from an adoption event on August 22:
Note how she watches everyone just walk by her? Why didn’t anyone even stop to pet her or call her a good girl?

Princessa has been in her second foster home, and that time is ending soon. She is scheduled to move to another foster home, but would you please share her story and help her find her very own person who will become her best friend?
