In Scottsdale, Arizona, an American bulldog named Bella, underwent a seven-hour ordeal on Wednesday as rescuers worked nonstop in order to free her from a ventilation tube, after she had fallen into the opening.

Bella’s owners told firefighters they were not able to find their beloved pet on the property of their home, but when his wife returned to their home, she could hear a faint whimpering sound. After investigating, the family found out that Bella was inside of the pipe underneath their home.

For whatever reason Bella had decided to crawl around under the house; she had even crawled another 25 feet into the main part of the house.

According to the Scottsdale Fire Department, their technical rescue team had been dispatched out to the property where Bella had fallen into the earth tube – a passive heating and cooling system used for ventilation. A special camera, a Savox Hasty Searchcam 3000, was first used to help locate Bella. Then it was time to free the dog.

It had been the Scottsdale Fire Department A Shift North East Deputy, Ladder 611, E609 and Engine 610’s technical rescue team who responded to the call. Technical rescue crews from Fire Station 610 assisted with the rescue operation.

Additionally, tools like rotohammers, air chisels, and a Sawzall were used to help excavate the area. Crews monitored air quality and ventilated the space while addressing egress for safety during the operation. After approximately seven hours of intensive work, Bella, an American Bulldog who had been a cherished part of the family, was safely rescued.

A lot of digging, a lot of cutting away and a lot of effort by this heroic crew, and Bella was rescued.

Bella certainly commands an audience.
