In Grassy Pork, Tennessee, the Tennessee Department of Transportation worker crew, were able to reunite a family with their two dogs after having been lost for more than a week following the widespread flooding.
According to the Tennessee Department of Transportation social media Instagram page, the dog tags helped employees find their owners who lived several miles from where the dogs were found. Richard McNabb and another employee of the TDOT, spotted the dogs on a part of the Interstate where the road had been washed away.
McNabb carefully approached the dogs – first the puppy and scooped her up into his arms. The mother dog had been close by and allowed the men to pick her up and place both dogs into the truck.

Disaster recovery is tough work. Now and then, there are bright moments.
Richard, a TDOT employee, found 2 dogs near mile marker 448 on I-40 in Cocke County while doing recovery work. The mother was drinking water from a ditch, with her pup not far away. The pup was barking like, “come help us!” The owners tell us the dogs had been missing for several days after Helene hit. Richard was happy to help reunite these furry loved ones with their family.
The owner of the dogs, Josh Ford had been very worried about the dogs. The other four puppies were safe but the family soon discovered the mother dog and one puppy were missing. Unfortunately, the lack of cell service made it difficult for Richard to get in touch with the family to tell them the dogs were found and doing fine for several more days.
TDOT shared a video of the rescue and the reunion on social media.
All the dogs and all the humans are doing well.
