In a Lower Manhattan high rise at the Gov. Alfred E. Smith Houses, a NYCHA complex near the Brooklyn Bridge, a pup lost his life earlier this week, as a result of unconscionable animal cruelty as reported by the New York Police Department.
According to the New York Post, an employee at the apartment complex, identified as Caretake Jay, had been cleaning in the area when he heard dog yelping. Jay was able to rescue the dog from the compactor and called the ASPCA who transferred the dog to their animal hospital.
Alyssa Flek, a spokesperson for the ASPCA, stated the dog suffered from four broken legs. It is not known how long the dog had been trapped in the compactor.
sadly, due to the severe medical injuries resulting in extreme suffering, this dog, an alleged victim of cruelty, was humanely euthanized to end existing and ongoing pain.
Police stated the dog had matted fur and had been “poorly cared for” prior to being thrown down the trash chute. According to the building HOA’s officer, the dog had not been a resident’s pet.

The photo of the dog lying in pain, his fur stained in brown from the contents of the trash, on the floor of the apartment building just before dog rescuers arrived to take him to the ASPCA emergency care center, now hangs in the lobby of the building, asking anyone who might have information about this poor innocent life so brutally treated, to notify the police.
If you see something say something. This is such a tragic story, but there has to be someone who recognizes this little dog. At the very least, we can help this innocent victim of a sicko’s cruelty find some justice.
Rest in peace little guy.
