In Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company rescued a small dog trapped in a tree about 10 feet up – hanging over the Rehoboth Canal.
According to firefighters, a couple spotted the dog early in the morning and then again in the same spot a few hours later. The Good Samaritans dialed 911 and local firefighters responded. At 11:23AM today, the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company was dispatched for the rescue.

It had been Ryan Peters, assistant chief for the fire department who volunteered to work his way to the dog, meeting one of the boat’s occupants after wading through thigh-deep water and hiking through 300 yards of marshlands. The small, scared tan dog had been perched on a knot in the tree, He had been able to climb up but was not able to get down.
Firefighters were able to supply Peters with the attic ladder and a blanket. Peters climbed up, calmed the pup down, and wrapped him in the blanket and carried him down. No sooner had the dog felt safe that he dozed off.

Animal Control took but found no chip. There was no collar, and it appears to have been out for a while with a bald spot on its ribcage that would have been against the tree.
If this is your pet, it’s being taken to the Brandywine Valley SPCA in Georgetown.

Many thanks to everyone who helped.
