In Clermont, Florida, located near Tampa and in the direct projected path of Hurricane Milton, farm owners Sara Weldon and her husband Rick Bass decided to ride out the hurricane with the farm animals the couple love and adore.
According to their Our Simple Homestead TikTok page, the couple cares for more than 100 animals and would not have been able to safely evacuate all of them, so the decision was made to brace for the storm as well as they could. And that they did!
In a video, Sara announces their farm had been in the direct path of Milton, but they were not evacuating.
We have been through other hurricanes but never in the direct path like we are for this one. Evacuating all of our animals would take a miracle, so we stay put with them. They are our children, and we want to stay. We are in a voluntary evacuation zone for now and are not near any bodies of water.
Early Thursday morning, Sara posted a video of Cash snuggled on the floor of their bedroom near the soaking wet dogs . In another section of the house, there were dozens of caged chickens inside the couple’s home.

Just two hours ago, the couple drove into town to post the following video. All the animals made it safely through the storm. We can’t be sure of the damage. The farm has no electricity as of this time, but everyone looks pretty peaceful and “none the worse for the wear” we hope.
